Okavango Delta
Primeval wilderness in unique water paradise. Botswana’s Okavango Delta can be seen from Space – 18 000 sq km of beautiful wetlands in the middle of the Kalahari Basin, a Mecca for tens of thousands of Africa’s magnificent species. A perfect setting for bespoke African safaris.
Top game viewing opportunities await you in this unique
area of Africa - ideal for bespoke African safaris. Seeing
the big five is virtually guaranteed. Tented
accommodation is often superb. Service is rarely
bettered. Access is easy with convenient landing strips.
There are good reasons for the abundance of wild life.
The delta is fed every year by the Okavango River from
Angola's Benguela Plateau which receives four times the
annual 500ml rainfall of the Delta itself. Entering
Botswana at Mohembo it flows south east down the 80km
'Panhandle' and, beyond Seronge, spreads out into the
area now called the Delta.
Reeds and papyrus flourish in the fast flowing water
which carry many nutrients. Water plants filter them out.
This enriches the pasture environment and results in
crystal clear water for everyone to drink in the farthest
reaches of the Delta. Antelope are thus prolific.
Predators have a good time, too.
Only about three percent of the original 11 billion cubic
metres of Okavango River water reaches the town of
Maun in the south and other exits points, by which time
all the salts are filtered out of it.
One of life's good experiences is to sit back in your
Okavango Delta canoe, dip your hand in the water beside
you for a refreshing drink and watch colour-resplendent
kingfishers dart their prey.
In a King & King bespoke african safari holiday like this
there will be a sunset in the offing and something more
robust on offer: something involving clinking ice or
luminous lager bubbles - on the house - with the sounds
of Africa in the background: trumpeting elephant, roaring
lion, laughing hyena.
Why wait?
